How to Clean Split AC indoor unit at home
Step 1: The first step is to dry the AC
If your AC is running for a while and there is moisture inside it, there is probably water inside it. Before cleaning the AC you need to dry it to remove those specks of dirt. To do so, set the AC on fan mode and run it for about 30-40mins.
Step 2: Switch off the electrical supply
Now before doing anything make sure the electrical supply is switched off. Turn off the switch and remove the plug so that no one accidentally turns it on.
Step 3: Open the front panel of the indoor unit
Remove the clips from both sides of the front panel, pull the panel.
Step 4: Clean the air filter:
Once you open the front panel you will see the air filter and those will be full of dust. When there is a lot of dust, it will block the airflow. It needs to be cleaned with water simply.
Pull the air filter’s bottom side then detach the entire air filter by pulling it out. There are two air filters, remove both of them.
Now you can see the Bacteria filter, remove it too.
Clean the air filters and bacteria filters using tap water. You can rinse them below the tap water. If they are looking really too dirty, you might use some detergent powder or liquid soap to clean it up.
After cleaning them with water, keep them somewhere to dry them up. You shouldn’t put them back on the AC until they aren’t dry properly.
If they are too dirty, you should consider cleaning the bacteria filters with an air conditioning cleaner and purifier, something like Blueoxy. It will clean bacteria and germs as well as remaining dust from the AC. It will also remove any kind of bad smell from the air conditioner.
Step 5: Clean the AC fins:
Once you remove those filters, you will see an insane amount of dirt, to remove that dirt you need to use the air blower that, in the beginning, we said you are going to need.
Turn the air blower on, take it in front of the AC fins and blow the dirt trapped in the fins.
Make sure the air blower doesn’t touch the fins.
Keep blowing the dirt till the fins look neat and clean. It will certainly improve the cooling performance.
You can apply the same air conditioning cleaner, Blueoxy. Just spray it on the metal fins lightly. This will give a nice fresh air from the AC.
Make sure you give some time to let it dry before turning on the AC.
Step 6: Place the Air filters and Bacteria filters back on to AC
Check if the Air and Bacteria filters are dry, if not use a dry cloth and mop the filters to dry them up quickly. Then put the bacteria filters and air filters inside the AC at their place.
Close the front panel, clean it using a piece of cloth.
Step 7: Turn on the AC to let it clean itself
Plugged the AC cords, switch it on. Set it on maximum cooling and run it 15-30 mins to let the AC clean itself. You will mostly see the water is coming out of the AC drain. Keep the AC on for few more minutes to clean it.
You should definitely see some improvements.
You still fill not confident enough, you should call a nearby AC technician.
