For a long time, I was looking for a video trimming tool. I wanted something that would as simple as it can be. I require to trim only the beginning and end part, don't need to merge different videos. I prefer a tool that does not require rendering after trimming.
The end result (exported video) with those tools is not exactly the same as the original video. They both have several settings for the export video quality. I wanted it to be exact same quality of the original, no change what so ever. I don't understand why achieving this so difficult, why these software don't have it. And so many times the trimmed videos are of much larger size than the original if I want to keep the quality same.
Then I remembered that VLC can do so many things, besides just playing videos. It can screen capture, it can trim. And decided to give it a try.
And yes, VLC comes to be the exact thing what I needed.
It copies the video frame by frame, do not render the thing and the change the quality. All it requires is to play the video so that it can record it frame by frame. You have set the starting and point and end point.
So, it provided all my requirements and some extra benefits
- The quality of the final video is exactly the same as the original
- Trimmed videos size is smaller than the original video, which it should as the video is shorter
- Simple to use, not that heavyweight and resource-demanding
- Do no require rendering after the video is trimmed
- You do not need to download an extra software, hoping you already use VLC player
3 steps to trim video with VLC player
Step 1: Open VLC and open the menu labelled View. In this menu, select Advanced Controls.
Step 2: Open the video you wish to take a cut from. Use the slider to navigate to the time you wish to begin recording. The Frame by frame button, located to the right of the Advanced Controls, will allow you to pinpoint the exact time you will wish to begin recording.
Step 3: Press the Record button on the left end of the Advanced Controls. Once the recording is toggled, press Play and allow the video to play through the section you want to be saved. At the end of the desired section, press the Record button again.
The video cut will be saved automatically by VLC (in Windows 10 the video will be placed in the Videos library).
Visiting their website I also discovered VLMC, a non-linear editing software for video creation for running on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, still in development. There is no download available yet. But I am very excited about the project. hoping to replace my current Video Editing program for simple edits.
I like VLC for video, both work very well but mpv gets less in the way, so I prefer it. I prefer a tool that does not require rendering after trimming.3 steps to trim video with VLC player

It is often discussed among the masses about the freely available user friendly media players and mostly we come across VLC as an unbeatable media player among its competitors. Despite of the competitive advantage not only it plays up files to discs, webcams, streams but also works with odd codec encrypted files one downloaded from random websites in Eastern Europe.https://technumus.com/frame-by-frame-vlc/
